Community Solar On Haida Gwaii

Xuyaa Sangslaang

SolShare is working with local partners, including Swiilawiid Sustainability Society and Tll Yahda Energy, to develop a community owned solar project in Masset on Haida Gwaii.  The 97 kW solar array would be owned by local residents and other people in BC.  The project is named “Xuyaa Sangslaang” meaning “the sun is trying to shine.”

We are especially excited about this project because it will offset electricity on a grid that is over 90% diesel powered and have a significant green house gas reduction.

The Grocery Co-op in Masset will host the project on their rooftop and purchase the solar power.

There is the opportunity for up to 192 community members to become co-owners.  The minimum buy in is $500.

We will begin accepting local shareholders on September 8th.  Priority will be given to residents of Haida Gwaii.  Installation of the solar array is expected to start September 23rd, 20026.
